Grandfather Mountain is a non profit company, popular North Carolina High Country Attraction and State Park. Grandfather Mountain is located in Linville North Carolina and has an elevation of 5,946 feet, and is also the highest peak of the eastern portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Grandfather Mountain is known for the highest swinging bridge in America, built in 1952.
Until 2008, Grandfather Mountain was privately owned and operated as a nature preserve and tourist attraction. Hugh Morton inherited Grandfather Mountain from his grandfather and turned it into a major tourist attraction. High Morton was an accomplished photographer and donated his photographs to UNC Chapel Hill.
